South Korea is situated in East Asia, on the southern half of the Korean Peninsula. It shares borders with Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (to the north), with the Sea of Japan (to the east), with the Korea Strait (to the south) and with the Yellow Sea (to the west). South Korea is mostly surrounded by water and has a long coast line along three seas: the Yellow Sea, the East China Sea and the Sea of Japan. The eastern coast of the country is mainly rocky, the mountains rise from the sea. The highest point of South Korea is the Hallasan, which is an extinct volcano. The climate of South Korea is considered to be moderate. The season of the rains lasts from July to August; the coldest season is from December to February.
